Sodium (Na), which is over 500 times more abundant than lithium (Li), has recently garnered significant attention for its potential in sodium-ion battery technologies. However, existing sodium-ion batteries face fundamental limitations, including lower power output, constrained storage properties, and longer charging times, necessitating the development of next-generation energy storage materials.

A research team led by Professor Jeung Ku Kang from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering has developed a high-energy, high-power hybrid sodium-ion battery capable of rapid charging.

This research, co-authored by KAIST doctoral candidates Jong Hui Choi and Dong Won Kim, was published in the journal Energy Storage Materials with the title “Low-crystallinity conductive multivalence iron sulfide-embedded S-doped anode and high-surface-area O-doped cathode of 3D porous N-rich graphitic carbon frameworks for high-performance sodium-ion hybrid energy storages.”

The innovative hybrid energy storage system integrates anode materials typically used in batteries with cathodes suitable for supercapacitors. This combination allows the device to achieve both high storage capacities and rapid charge-discharge rates, positioning it as a viable next-generation alternative to lithium-ion batteries.

However, the development of a hybrid battery with high energy and high power density requires an improvement to the slow energy storage rate of battery-type anodes as well as the enhancement of the relatively low capacity of supercapacitor-type cathode materials.

To account for this, Professor Kang’s team utilized two distinct metal-organic frameworks for the optimized synthesis of hybrid batteries. This approach led to the development of an anode material with improved kinetics through the inclusion of fine active materials in porous carbon derived from metal-organic frameworks.

Additionally, a high-capacity cathode material was synthesized, and the combination of the cathode and anode materials allowed for the development of a sodium-ion storage system optimizing the balance and minimizing the disparities in energy storage rates between the electrodes.

The assembled full cell, comprising the newly developed anode and cathode, forms a high-performance hybrid sodium-ion energy storage device. This device surpasses the energy density of commercial lithium-ion batteries and exhibits the characteristics of supercapacitors’ power density. It is expected to be suitable for rapid charging applications ranging from electric vehicles to smart electronic devices and aerospace technologies.

Professor Kang noted that the hybrid sodium-ion energy storage device, capable of rapid charging and achieving an energy density of 247 Wh/kg and a power density of 34,748 W/kg, represents a breakthrough in overcoming the current limitations of energy storage systems. He anticipates broader applications across various electronic devices, including electric vehicles.

Here are nine advanced money rules often followed by the wealthy, distilled from various studies, books, and experts:Ezoic

  1. Leverage and Investment: The rich often use leverage to amplify their investment returns. For example, they borrow at lower rates and invest in higher-return assets.
  2. Diversification: Wealthy individuals diversify their investments across various asset classes to mitigate risk.
  3. Income Streams: They don’t rely on a single income source. Multiple streams of income, including passive income, are a vital strategy.
  4. Long-Term Perspective: The rich focus on long-term gains rather than short-term fluctuations, understanding that wealth building is a marathon, not a sprint.
  5. Tax Efficiency: Understanding and utilizing tax laws to minimize liability is shared among the wealthy.
  6. Risk Management: They are adept at managing and mitigating risk in investments and across all financial decisions.
  7. Asset Protection: Wealthy individuals often use legal structures to protect their assets from lawsuits and creditors.
  8. Philanthropy and Legacy Planning: Many wealthy individuals engage in philanthropy and establish trusts or foundations for legacy planning.
  9. Continuous Learning and Adaptation: They stay informed about financial markets, technology, business trends, and economic trends. They are willing to adapt their strategies accordingly.

These rules are more about strategic thinking as the specific tactics will differ for each person, reflecting a growth mindset geared towards building assets and preserving wealth.

Keep reading for a deeper dive into the rich’s money rules.Ezoic

Leveraging Wealth: The Power Of Investment Leverage

One of the most powerful tools in the wealthy’s financial arsenal is leverage – using borrowed money to increase investment potential. This strategy amplifies returns while managing risks. However, it’s not without its pitfalls.Ezoic

Key considerations when using leverage include understanding the cost of borrowing, the potential returns on investments, and the risks involved. The rich use leverage judiciously, ensuring the potential gains outweigh the risks and costs. Self-liquidating assets, real estate, and business ownership are three of the wealthy’s most popular debt-driven wealth-building tools.

Mastering Diversification: Spreading Risk To Grow Rich

Diversification is a cornerstone of wealth management. It involves spreading investments across various asset classes to mitigate risk. The wealthy understand that putting all eggs in one basket is risky.

Instead, they invest in stocks, bonds, businesses, real estate, and other assets. This approach protects them from the volatility of individual investments and positions them to capitalize on different market conditions. Self-made millionaires tend to start concentrated on their wealth building with their primary business and then diversify into more investments as their wealth grows to alleviate risks.Ezoic

Multiple Income Streams: The Secret To Sustained Wealth

The rich don’t rely on a single source of income. Instead, they build multiple streams, including passive income, dividends, and rental income. This strategy provides financial stability and opens up growth opportunities.

By diversifying their income sources, the wealthy ensure they are not overly reliant on any single income stream, which is crucial for long-term financial security. They tend to have cash flow from a business, investment dividends, rental properties, and digital assets, among other income sources.

The Long Game: Wealth Building With A Long-Term Perspective

Wealth building is a marathon, not a sprint. The wealthy focus on long-term gains rather than short-term fluctuations. They understand that patience and foresight are critical to wealth accumulation.Ezoic

Long-termEzoicinvestment strategies often involve holding assets over extended periods, benefiting from compound interest, compounding capital gains, reinvesting dividends, and avoiding the pitfalls of panic selling their long-term investments.

Tax Strategies: Minimizing Liability, Maximizing Wealth

Tax efficiency plays a significant role in wealth management. The wealthy use various strategies to reduce their tax liabilities, maximizing their wealth. These strategies can include investing in tax-advantaged accounts, making charitable contributions, and utilizing tax-efficient investment vehicles.

By minimizing the amount paid in taxes, the wealthy can retain more of their earnings for reinvestment and growth. The wealthy’s largest and most controllable expense is taxes, so they optimize for minimal taxes through the existing tax code and expert advice.Ezoic

Risk Management: The Wealthy’s Approach To Financial Security

Risk management is crucial in personal finance, especially for the wealthy. Their approach to risk focuses on the preservation of capital. This involves identifying potential hazards, assessing their impact, and implementing mitigation strategies.

Key risk management strategies include diversification, insurance, and setting aside emergency funds. They always look at the size of the risks they take on and the overall risk-reward ratio for each endeavor.

Asset Protection: Safeguarding Wealth Against Threats

Protecting assets from legal and financial threats is another critical aspect of wealth management. The wealthy often use legal structures like trusts and holding companies to protect their assets from lawsuits and creditors. These structures can shield personal assets, preserving wealth for future generations.

Philanthropy And Legacy: The Rich’s Approach To Giving Back

Many wealthy individuals consider philanthropy and legacy planning integral to their wealth strategy. This approach goes beyond mere wealth accumulation, focusing on the impact of their wealth on society.

Philanthropy can take many forms, from charitable donations to establishing foundations. Legacy planning often involves establishing trusts and estate planning to ensure wealth is passed on according to their wishes.

Adaptation And Learning: Staying Ahead In Wealth Management

The financial world is ever-changing, and staying informed and adaptable is crucial for successful wealth management. The wealthy invest in continuous learning, keeping updated on financial markets, economic trends, and new investment opportunities. This proactive approach allows them to adapt their strategies to market changes and emerging trends.

Key Takeaways

  • Utilizing borrowed funds strategically enhances investment returns.
  • Wealth accumulation benefits from a diversified investment portfolio.
  • Establishing diverse income sources ensures financial resilience.
  • Prioritizing long-term wealth growth over immediate gains.
  • Implementing tax-efficient strategies to retain more earnings.
  • Emphasizing capital preservation through calculated risk assessment.
  • Safeguarding assets with legal measures against potential threats.
  • Integrating charitable acts and thoughtful legacy planning.
  • Committing to ongoing education and adaptability in financial strategies.

Conclusion

The fiscal habits of affluent individuals revolve around sophisticated management and the growth of resources. These principles encompass a broad spectrum, from leveraging and protecting assets to philanthropic endeavors and continuous self-education in the financial realm.

Embracing these rules offers a blueprint for accumulating wealth and nurturing and sustaining it through thoughtful, informed decisions. This approach underscores a holistic view of wealth, where its creation, preservation, and utilization go hand in hand, paving the way for lasting financial success and impact.

The financial strategies of the wealthy are not just about accumulating more money; they are about managing and growing wealth sustainably. By understanding and applying these nine money rules, you can take a page from the playbook of the rich and set yourself on a path to financial success. Remember, wealth building is a journey that requires patience, foresight, and a willingness to learn and adapt.

Accumulated points or miles can be used to offset the cost of airfare or even secure free flights.

Travel off-peak: Travelling during off-peak seasons or avoiding peak travel days (like weekends and holidays) can result in lower fares. Additionally, flights during off-peak hours, such as early morning or late at night, may be cheaper.

Ather 450 Apex launched with powerful motor offering over 100 kmph speed https://dizzair.com/2024/02/09/ather-450-apex-launched-with-powerful-motor-offering-over-100-kmph-speed/ https://dizzair.com/2024/02/09/ather-450-apex-launched-with-powerful-motor-offering-over-100-kmph-speed/#respond Fri, 09 Feb 2024 10:43:07 +0000 https://dizzair.com/?p=9182 Readmore]]>

Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer Ather Energy has officially launched its flagship electric scooter, the 450 Apex, with a starting price of Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The company had already started accepting bookings for the scooter last month, with a token amount of Rs 2,500. Deliveries of the electric scooter are set to begin in March 2024.

The Ather 450 Apex comes with several upgrades compared to its predecessor, the Ather 450X. It boasts a more powerful 7.0 kW/26 Nm motor, allowing it to surpass speeds of 100 kmph. In contrast, the 450X had a top speed of 90 kmph. The Apex also offers better acceleration, reaching 40 kmph from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds.

The flagship scooter shares the same 3.7 kWh battery pack as the 450X, but with an improved claimed range of 157 km on a single charge. It features five riding modes, including the new ‘Warp+’ mode, which offers enhanced acceleration without compromising the range of 75 km. Another notable feature is ‘Magic Twist,’ which allows the scooter to slow down without using the brakes every time the throttle is released.

The Ather 450 Apex is available in the Indium Blue paint option and features transparent side panels, giving it an eye-catching appearance. It also comes with an extended 5-year/60,000 km battery warranty, in comparison to the 3-year/30,000 km coverage provided for the 450X. Other than these changes, the scooter remains largely the same, with similar features and hardware.

My family of 4 spent a night on a private houseboat in India for $300 — it was a unique, luxurious way to see such a beautiful place https://dizzair.com/2024/02/09/my-family-of-4-spent-a-night-on-a-private-houseboat-in-india-for-300-it-was-a-unique-luxurious-way-to-see-such-a-beautiful-place/ https://dizzair.com/2024/02/09/my-family-of-4-spent-a-night-on-a-private-houseboat-in-india-for-300-it-was-a-unique-luxurious-way-to-see-such-a-beautiful-place/#respond Fri, 09 Feb 2024 10:12:49 +0000 https://dizzair.com/?p=9172 Readmore]]>
  • My family paid $300 for a night on a private two-bedroom houseboat in southern India.
  • We spent the day sailing the backwaters of the river city of Alleppey, and were served three meals.
  • The meals, boat staff, and views made the experience the highlight of our two-week trip.
  • My family and I don’t exchange birthday or Christmas gifts. Instead, we travel together to Asia or Africa for two weeks in December.

We’ve spent the holidays hiking volcanoes in Indonesia, traveling by train through Vietnam, and swimming in the Indian Ocean in Madagascar.

This past Christmas, my family and I spent two weeks traveling through the southern Indian region of Kerala.

The highlight of our trip was spending Christmas on a private houseboat for 25,000 rupees, or about $300.

We boarded our private, two-bedroom houseboat in an Alleppey canal.

Me and my family spent the night on a private, two-bedroom houseboat.

Our houseboat was docked in Alleppey, also known as Alappuzha.

It’s a river city framed by sprawling rice fields and narrow canals lined with palms and pastel-colored houses.

We boarded our two-bedroom houseboat in what’s popularly known as the backwaters, a network of lagoons, lakes, and canals throughout the Kerala region.

Our houseboat had a living and dining area with floor-to-ceiling windows, two bedrooms with private bathrooms, and a kitchen where a private chef cooked us lunch, dinner, and breakfast.

The main part of the boat was filled with natural light.

We entered the boat through the light-filled living and dining area — each side had three huge windows. It also had two ceiling fans to help stave off the Indian heat.

After boarding, we met our two-person staff (not including the houseboat’s driver), who welcomed us with freshly squeezed pineapple juice.

Long benches snaked along the houseboat’s two sides, and wooden lounge chairs were positioned by the windows for optimal views.

After boarding, we checked out our living quarters for the night.

Both bedrooms were off a long hallway that led to the kitchen.

Each had a king-sized bed, two nightstands, a mirror, a small closet, a window, and a private bathroom with a shower.

In December, India is dry and sunny, so I was also glad to have air conditioners in each bedroom and the living room.

Soon, we began cruising along the backwaters.

    View of windows from houseboat
There were impressive views from most parts of the boat.

During the day, all the living and dining-room windows were flung open to let in a much-needed cooling breeze.

As the houseboat’s engine came onto a rumbling start, I sat in a lounge chair behind the driver for a 180-degree view of the scenery.

Cruising down the backwaters felt like sailing through liquid glass.

View of palm tees and still water from houseboat
Locals driving long, low wooden boats waved as we passed each other.

The canal’s water was so still that the palm trees and houses were reflected almost perfectly onto its surface.

I enjoyed sailing by the many temples, schools, and houses shaded by lush vegetation and bushes of hibiscus flowers. Each waterfront house had small steps leading into the canal.

I thought it was one of the most beautiful places I’d ever seen.

An hour into sailing, we were served an authentic local lunch.

Lunch aboard the houseboat was filling.

The lunch prepared for us was a full-on feast.

We were given a large pot of basmati rice, vegetables and cabbage tossed with grated coconut, and cubed potatoes drenched in a lightly spicy sauce.

We also had plenty of poori, a deep-fried bread, and we each got a local river fish grilled with turmeric and masala.

Everything was delicious, but the star of the meal was the fish. Its meat was incredibly tender, flaky, and flavorful.

After lunch, the boat stopped and we went on a walk.

    Coolers with seafood inside
The local stall sold crabs, king prawns, and an assortment of fish.

Before heading on our walk, the staff told us of a local fish stall where we could pick out our meal for the night.

The pop-up store had river crabs, river king prawns with long cobalt-blue legs, and other local fish.

We bought four king prawns and a red snapper for 1,180 rupees, about $14, and returned to our houseboat.

At around 5 p.m., we were served tea and a light snack.

Cup of tea on checkered tablecloth
I drank a lot of masala chai during my time in India.

Throughout my two-week trip to India, I drank my weight in masala chai, a tea spiced with cardamom, clove, cinnamon, black pepper, allspice, star anise, and ginger. It’s often served with milk and sugar.

It’s common to drink chai during breakfast and in the late afternoon and have a sweet or savory snack with it — I happily took part in this ritual every day.

The masala chai on board was perfectly spiced and served alongside sweet, deep-fried bananas that were surprisingly light.

As the sun set, we docked for the night in the same spot we boarded from earlier in the day.

We closed the windows to keep out the many mosquitos that arrived at dusk, drew our shades for privacy, and turned on all the AC units on the boat.

We were served dinner an hour after sunset.

Plate of food on gingham tablecloth
The meat of the red snapper was dark and flaky, and the king prawns were juicy and tender.

The king prawns and red snapper we purchased earlier were cooked with garlic paste, turmeric, masala, and lime.

We were also served chapati (flatbread), basmati rice, spicy cubed potatoes, and a bowl of yellow dal (a rich and creamy lentil soup). We washed our dinner down with a cold bottle of Indian Grover sauvignon blanc.

Everything was bursting with flavor, and it was easily one of the best meals we had during our trip. After dinner, we drank hot ginger tea to digest, played cards, and returned to our rooms for an early night.

The next day, I woke up early to enjoy the quiet moments of the morning.

The morning light made the houseboat shine.

I woke up around 7 a.m. to experience the backwaters in the early moments of the day. When I walked out of my bedroom, I saw that the living and dining ares were bathed in golden sunlight.

For the next hour, I packed up my things and sat by the windows to take in the views.

At around 8 a.m. we were served a hearty Indian breakfast.

Eggs and rolled breakfast on gingham tablecloth
Our breakfast on the houseboat tasted fresh.

The dining table was set with a large pot filled with rolled Indian pancakes stuffed with grated coconut, sugar, and cumin seeds.

There were also glasses of freshly squeezed pineapple juice, butter-soft omelets, and sliced toast slathered with local pineapple jam.

It was easily the best breakfast I had during my trip.

As we ate, the houseboat went on one final sail.

View of palm trees and still water from houseboat
The views from the houseboat were incredible.

We passed by locals welcoming the cloudless day by washing their clothes in the canal and hanging them across trees to dry.

I saw turquoise dragonflies and yellow butterflies flicker past the windows and white egrets standing on large patches of floating water lettuce.

The experience was the highlight of our two-week trip.

Selfie of Asia London Palomba in a houseboat in India
I’d definitely stay on a houseboat again.

Although I was sad about leaving the houseboat and Alleppey, I felt incredibly grateful for the experience.

The local meals, friendly staff, and views of the city’s backwaters made the night aboard the houseboat the highlight of our two-week trip.

Next time, I’d like to stay two nights to maximize the experience and see new areas of Alleppey’s backwaters.
